Title: The Witches of Lancashire
By: Thomas Heywood, Richard Brome (Editor), Gabriel Egan (Editor)
(2002)
Price: £7.69
Paperback - 100 pages
Nick Hern Books
The Witches of Lancashire was first performed
at the Globe in the summer of 1634 and published later that year
as The Late Lancashire Witches. Based on depositions from an actual
case of alleged witchcraft, Brome and Heywood's farce of social
inversion and sexual exhaustion was a huge stage success, according
to a recently-discovered eyewitness account. The play was revived
as a staged reading at Shakespeare's Globe in August 2001.
