The story of the Pendle Witches is one of the most infamous in the history of Lancashire. It dates from 1612, when the trial of the witches took place at Lancaster Castle and resulted in the hanging of nine people from the Pendle area for the crime of witchcraft.

This website tells of the trial and the story behind it.
Please read on to discover for yourself whether the Pendle Witches were guilty or merely victims of circumstance who paid the ultimate price.
